Can I get discounts on real ale in pubs?

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has recently launched a nationwide scheme to encourage pubs to offer a discount to CAMRA members on production of their membership card. The scheme is open to all pubs that sell real ale and can offer a discount of up to 20% on a pint of real ale. You can use the database available on the CAMRA website to find a pub near to you that is participating in the scheme.

Can I get discount on bottles of real ale in shops?

Some shops will provide discounts (usually 10%) on bottles of real ale to CAMRA members on production of their membership card. If you are a member of CAMRA contact your local branch to find out if there are any local shops that offer a discount. Supermarkets also offer promotions and discounts on real ales from time to time.

Another good way of obtaining real ale discounts is to buy the real ale from the brewery that makes them. Many breweries have a brewery tap or a shop that sell real ale directly to the public. Some breweries sell beer at a discounted rate compared to supermarkets and pubs. Also the beer will be fresher and of a higher quality. One of the best breweries we found was selling beer to the public a£1 a pint – what a great deal for excellent real ale.

We recommend using the website called Drink Real Ale from the Brewery. This site provides the names and locations of many breweries that sell beer to the public and the contact details for you to get in touch with the brewery.

Another good tip is to take along your own container to buy the draught real ale. Some breweries will supply 2 or 4 pint containers but if you take your own along you will not have to buy them.

What benefits are available for CAMRA members?

In 2017 CAMRA membership costs £24 for full single membership and £29.50 for full joint membership. When you join you receive £20 worth of JD Wetherspoon vouchers to be used throughout the year. Other benefits include:
